I read today that a man is more likely to be killed by a vending machine than falsely accused of rape.

I also read today that 10 out of 10 women you know are listening intently when you call him a good guy who would never do that, he has a mom and sister and he cares about them. That same study found that 10 out of 10 women are too fucking exhausted to respond when you say they were both drunk.

When you're "just asking questions," but not (never) undermining a woman brave enough to voice the worst moment of her life.

When you create a mountain out of the mole hill of false reports and mistake it for the real mountain of unreported violence for the flat earth you stand on.

When you make policy based on your false perception of false reports. When you fail to protect children from a man who will do this again and again and again until it's Really Bad. But then... maybe it'll be just another false report like it was every single other time?

We, the people harmed by these men and your false faith in your own decency, have some fucking questions:

Do men fear false reports the same way women fear rape? Are men afraid when they're on the street alone at night?

Do men do that thing where they make claws out of their keys between their fingers and wonder if they could punch a woman hard enough to buy time to run? Are men afraid when they're alone with their female teachers after school? Are men afraid when they're the only man late at the office with their female coworkers? Do men fear being assaulted when they're examined by their female urologist?

Do men make a plan with each other before they go out so everyone gets home safely? Do men have a secret signal with their friends that means "get me away from this woman" but don't offend her because if she gets mad, we might be in danger”?

So I'll ask once more: do men fear false reports the same way women fear rape? Does it shape so many of their choices that sometimes they forget to notice? I don't think so.

I'll make men a deal: I will start giving a fuck about false reports when men care about how their false report rhetoric stops women from reporting AND when men finally get together hold each other accountable, and figure out how to fix this shit without placing one single additional burden on women because I read today that

10 out of 10 women are too busy trying not to be raped whether we recognize it or not.
