On the same day my doctor suggested
I remove my ovaries without telling me what it meant
to medically induce menopause,
an investigator hired by the school department
asked me to relive what the Cavalier had done to me
20 years ago.

“I understand
how hard
this is
for you.”

When I asked what he would do with what I told him, he said,
it was just for his benefit He wasn’t sure beyond that.
I still possess my ovaries, but I lost control over who gets to tell
my story.
