What kind of mother would you be?
He's not the kind of guy who merits a second glance until he hurts you, scares you,
in the kind of way you know you'll get even more hurt - and I don't mean your feelings.
I mean in the telling you he would smack your pretty little mouth way,
in the repeated advances no matter what you say way, in the he has acted like this before
and got away with it way,
in the driving his motorcycle into the dorm where you have dorm duty after you reported him way.
In the you were 20 and he was 34 way. In the he will get your attention if he has to hurt you way.
So instead of asking why I would "do this to him"
we might ask why I would bother if he wasn't a dangerous person working at my daughter's school,
clearly not behaving any differently.
If it was your daughter, we might ask why wouldn't you? (What kind of mother would you be?)
Instead of asking
what I had to gain,
we might ask
what I stood to lose if I kept my pretty little mouth shut.
